SCOTT OLDFORD is the CEO and founder of Essential Coding, a booming web design development and online marketing company. He’s also 20 years old. Scott has been an entrepreneur since the age of nine when he began selling eggs, and eventually had to stop because his hustle was brining in more eggs that he was legally allowed to sell. A year later he became intrigued with computers started programming. By the age of 13, he was hiring people well into their 20s to work for him. Not bad for a young man who had to overcome a number of learning disabilities, including dyslexia, just to get through high school. Despite his confidence and accomplishments, he remains a firm believer in always pushing himself, even if it means putting your ego aside. “I always try to hire people who are better than me,” he says. “It’s the only way to get better.”
Scott sees nothing but opportunity for his business in Newfoundland and Labrador. In his eyes, the time is right for the province to fully embrace the technology that’s out there, and he’s determined to lead the way.
